Jeremy Roebuck

“Rewarding, Challenging and Beneficial’”

A university professor from Edinburgh, Scotland, Jeremy volunteered for Grow Movement after reading an article in the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) magazine in 2014. A member of MENSA, AMBAs and the ILM he has a MBA from the Open University and 30 years of experience in Banking and Finance and seven years in academia. Jeremy wanted to volunteer his expertise in business and assist others.

“I volunteered because I wanted the experience of volunteering in Africa and to use my existing skills I have developed.”

Jeremy volunteers as a mentor to the Grow Rwanda Manager, Eric Iyaremye, supporting him in recruitment of both clients and volunteers.

“Eric is a very bright and resourceful young manager and is 100% committed to the work of Grow Movement, so it is a real pleasure to work with him. We both gain from it. I'm certain I learn as much from him as he does from me. Our routine is a fixed weekly Skype video call at 7.30 UK time 9.30 Rwanda time where we go though the successes etc. from last week and priorities for next week, together with any other important issues. As we have got to know each other better over time the calls have become a little shorter and we generally spend about half an hour on the standard weekly call. In addition we're in touch throughout the week by email and Skype whenever there is anything that needs attention. I am currently supporting Eric with his application to study here in the UK.”

Jeremy is based in Edinburgh he is also the Grow Scotland Manager, leading our volunteer expansion and enhancing the relationship between Scotland and Malawi.

“I am passionate about the work that Grow carries. I am keen to expand the volunteer team in Scotland and to further develop the unique relationship that exists between Scotland and Malawi. This is an incredible volunteering experience that has a real and tangible impact. I would like more Scottish business people to be involved with sharing their skills with others.”
