Nissar is a consultant living in London with an EMBA from London Business School and over 8 years of experience in corporate strategy in both the food and agriculture sector. Nissar has expertise in growth strategies, performance improvement and mergers and acquisitions. Nissar volunteered in Rwanda with a coffee washing station entrepreneur called Dusabe Gahizi Aime who supplies unbranded coffee for export to local and international aggregators. Owing to poor mobile and internet connections they communicated mostly by email, reviewing financial statements.
“I volunteered because I wanted to contribute and make a difference. We communicated exclusively by email as phone connections and language were a problem. My main role I found was being a sounding board which helped Dusabe clarify his ideas and direction. Though I did not know the industry I am quite used to this approach with my consulting background. Our aim was to structure a sales pitch for acquisition of funding from donors."
“One of the main challenges I found was getting the client to take ownership. I would suggest ideas and he would want me to do them. This was down to a lack of confidence which we worked on together over time."
“Professionally I gained experience in consultancy and with NGO fundraising. Personally I benefitted as I was able to use use my know-how to contribute for development of people. This gave me a lot of satisfaction.”
